it seems fitting that today is the first official day of the annual leave you have when you’re not really having annual leave, and i finally have a finished knitted object. how long has it been? ah, lets just move on shall we?
i pretty much used the Yarn Harlot’s method for deciding whether something is long enough and that is ‘When You Get Bored’. i got bored a couple of days ago and measured it next to my favourite (but very long) scarf, celes.

i added another repeat after this, and then the border, and i finised it on monday night i think. when i got home from work yesterday i put the object in to soak

and then promptly forgot about it. i was about to sit down and knit something else, when i realised i needed to rescue said object from the bucket. i then spent my wednesday night on my hands and knees in the hallway.

as you do. wet blocking is a kind of knitting magic. i used a lot of pins, and gave it a good stretch so the details really started to show.

this morning i unpinned it and was so happy with how it turned out. it is definitely long enough, nearly as long as celes after blocking.

the yarn is swans island pure blend (merino/alpaca) fingering weight, a spur of the moment super sale special from suzyhausfrau. the pattern is ‘sandy cove’ from wool people 5 by kieran foley. you can read the tech specs on my ravelry page here. i am beyond thrilled with it. not just the yarn, which is soft and light as gossamer clouds.

but this gorgeous pattern – a simple lace chart for the bottom, knitted on lace edging in the gentle scallops of shells and waves, another knitted on border at the top, simple garter stitch in the middle. it wraps beautifully around my neck

and is the perfect blend of pretty without being frufru. i really am not into frufru in my lace shawls or scarves anymore. just something with a bit of detail, that actually keeps me warm without weighing a tonne.
